Immigration Resources
The safety and well-being of every student in the Oak Grove School District is a top priority for our staff, administrators, and Board of Trustees. To uphold safe and secure learning environments, Oak Grove has the following policies, practices and resources for our school communities when responding to immigration enforcement on campus:
-
Board policy 5125: Student Records (linked here on website) – No information or documents regarding the citizenship or immigration status of students or their family members shall be collected, except as required by law. Student records shall not be disclosed for immigration enforcement purposes without parental consent, a court order, or a judicial subpoena. Staff are directed to immediately notify the Superintendent if such a request is received.
-
Policy 5145.13: Response to Immigration Enforcement (linked here on website) – In alignment with requirements of the California Office of the Attorney General, procedures are in place to address requests from law enforcement officers seeking access to records, students, or school sites for immigration enforcement purposes.
-
Resolution No. 1246-01/17: Affirming Support of Students and Families Regarding Immigration Enforcement Actions at Schools (linked here on website). This resolution designates Oak Grove schools and programs as sanctuaries for students to the fullest extent allowed by law, and specifies that:
-
Staff shall not inquire about or record a student’s or family member’s citizenship or immigration status.
-
Any requests from ICE or other immigration enforcement agents are to be forwarded to the Office of the Superintendent for review and legal guidance.
-
The District shall not enter into agreements related to federal immigration enforcement with any law enforcement agencies, except as required by law.
-
In accordance to state law, should immigration officers come onto campus, they will not be permitted to enter non-public space on campus (anything beyond the school office) without a judicial warrant. If a federal judicial warrant is presented to see a student, the parent/guardian will be notified immediately.
