Frequently Asked Questions

ENROLLMENT FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ's)

How do I enroll my child at an OGSD school?
Registration for the Oak Grove School District is a 4 step process. To start the process, please refer to the top of this page.
1. Find your School - SCHOOL LOCATOR
2. Gather your Required Documents
3. Register Online - ONLINE REGISTRATION PORTAL
4. Submit your Required Documents (either online or in-person)

How can I find which school is my neighborhood school?
You can use the FIND YOUR SCHOOL tab on the District Website.

Am I guaranteed a place at my neighborhood school?
Oak Grove believes in the power of neighborhood schools. We make every attempt to ensure students attend their “school of residence.” Due to state-mandated class sizes, we are limited to the number of students assigned to each class. This number varies by grade level. Occasionally, we must place a student at a school other than their school of residence. When this is necessary, we make every attempt to return the student to their school of residence the following year. Many times the student and family become attached to the school where they are placed. When a spot becomes available at their school of residence, the family is given the option to return to that school or stay at their current school.

How do I change schools?
In order to attend a school other than your school of residence, you must complete an Intra-District transfer request form. You must complete this process online beginning on January 9th through March 10th, 2023. Please see our SCHOOL TRANSFERS page for more information.

What is an Inter-District transfer?
An Inter-District transfer is a request for a student to attend a school outside their district of residence. (For example, a student who lives within the attendance area of Gilroy Unified School District wants to attend a school in Oak Grove School District.) The family would need to complete an Inter-District transfer request. The request must first be approved by the district of residence. It is then reviewed and approved or denied by the “new” district of attendance. These requests must be renewed each year. Please visit our SCHOOL TRANSFERS page for more information and to download the Inter-District Application form.

What should I do if the online registration does not recognize my address?
If your address is not found in the system it could be because your street is not in our school locator database or you are coming to us on an Inter-District Transfer. If you live in one of the newer developments in our district, or have already been approved for an Inter-District Transfer, you may manually type in your address and continue to fill out the registration form. Verification of address will be done by the District Office, but you will still need to provide proof of residency to your school’s secretary to complete registration.

What documents are needed for enrollment?
Please review the Student Registration Checklists below for required documents.

Immunization requirements vary by student age. Click here for a link to the current immunization requirements.

What is TK eligibility?
TK eligibility is September 2, 2023 to April 2, 2024 – If a student's 5th birthday is between these dates, students are automatically placed in Transitional Kindergarten.

Is there before/after school care at my school?
There are many before/after school programs in our school district including our BASE Before and After School Enrichment Program. Programs vary by school site. You can contact your school office for information about what they offer.

Do I have to re-enroll my 6th grade student for Jr. High School?
NO, your 6th grade student will automatically be enrolled in Jr. High School. The Jr. High School campus they are enrolled in will be determined by your home address. If you are unsure of your home school for Jr. High, please use the Oak Grove School District SchoolFinder to locate your neighborhood Jr. High School.

Do I have to register my current special education Preschool student for TK/Kindergarten?
Yes, if your child is currently enrolled in OGSD's Preschool Program, you will need to register your child for TK/Kindergarten as the requirements are different. Please follow the enrollment process above.

What is the TWBI program?
TWBI stands for Two-Way Bilingual Immersion. In this program, students from two different language groups work together to learn academics and become biliterate in English and Spanish. The goal of the program is to prepare bicultural and biliterate students by the end of their high school career. Children begin this program in Transitional Kindergarten or Kindergarten at Del Roble Elementary School or Christopher Elementary School. To learn more about the TWBI Program, please visit our PROGRAM OPTIONS page.
