OGSD Chromebook Protection Plan
Introduction
Students and their parents/guardians are responsible for the care of all instructional materials, including Chromebooks, issued by Oak Grove School District (OGSD). This responsibility encompasses the costs related to damage, loss, or theft (as per California Education Code 48904). The purpose of this policy is to safeguard OGSD families from accumulating debt due to accidental damage or theft of school-issued Chromebooks.
Policy Duration
-
The policy period starts on the first day of the school year and ends at the beginning of the following school year, according to the board-adopted school calendar. For graduating 8th Graders and non-returning students, the policy period concludes on the last day of school.
-
Policies purchased at any time during the school year will be valid until the start of the next school year based on the board-adopted calendar.
-
Students who receive new devices at the beginning of the school year may purchase insurance until the end of the third week of school without needing the device inspected. Any insurance purchased after this period requires the device and charger to be inspected by an OGSD Technology Department employee. If devices are not distributed within the first two weeks of school, the grace period may be extended by up to three weeks at the discretion of site administration.
Parts Costs without Protection Plan – 24/25

Protection Plan Cost
Coverage is available for $27.25 annually. A separate protection plan will need to be purchased for each student/Chromebook in your household. Mid-year purchases are not prorated.
Refunds
Refunds are not provided. If a student leaves and later returns during the same school year, the original policy remains in effect until its expiration date.
Deductibles (per policy period)
-
First covered repair: $0 deductible
-
Second covered repair: up to a $30 deductible
-
Third covered repair: up to a $60 deductible
-
After three repairs or replacements, the policy is void, and the parent/guardian is responsible for all further damage.
Responsibilities in the Event of Loss or Damage
-
Report any loss or damage to the school staff within 10 days. If school is not in session, notify the District Office via email (chromebooks@ogsd.net) or in person.
-
If the loss is due to theft, burglary, robbery, or vandalism, report it to the local police and provide the official police report to the school staff.
Settlement Options
OGSD will cover the cost of repairing the insured device, including parts and labor. If repair is not possible, an equivalent replacement device chosen by OGSD will be provided. Coverage will transfer to the replacement device for the policy's duration. While the original device is being repaired, a loaner device may be issued by the school. The policy will cover the loaner device until the original device is returned or a permanent replacement is issued.
Fraud, Concealment, and Misrepresentation
Coverage may be denied if the student intentionally defrauds, conceals, or misrepresents any material information regarding the cause of damage or loss.
