Substitute Teacher Requirements

The minimum requirements for a 30-day Substitute Teaching Permit are:

  1. A Bachelors’ Degree or higher
  2. Satisfying the Basic Skills Requirement
  3. Obtaining fingerprint clearance with the Commission on Teacher Credentialing for issuance of the permit

If you meet these requirements you may apply for an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teacher Permit.  The substitute permit is valid for a period of one year and allows you to substitute teach on a day-to-day basis for up to 30 days in the same classroom. 

 Certificated Substitute Rates:

  • $225 per day for a full day (regular day-to-day) 
  • $250 per day for (21+ days)

ESSA Para Professional Testing – All Instructional Assistants and School Age Child Care Aides must be ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) compliant.  If you have a BA, AA or at least 48 semester units from an accredited college, you are compliant.  If not, please review the study guide below and schedule a time to take the test to become compliant.
