OAK GROVE SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES

ANNOUNCEMENT OF BOARD MEMBER VACANCY

August 23, 2024

The Oak Grove School District announces an opening on the District’s Board of Trustees for Trustee Area 5, due to the resignation of a Board member. Trustee Area 5 includes Baldwin Elementary School, Ledesma Elementary School and Bernal Intermediate School (see map below).  Eligibility for membership on the Board is described in the Education Code excerpt below.  The position will be filled by appointment extending until the next general election in November, 2026. 

 

Citizens who are interested in membership on the Board may so indicate by filing an application with the Superintendent on or before September 6, 2024, at 4:30 p.m.   Application forms are available during normal working hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) from the Office of the Superintendent, Oak Grove School District, 6578 Santa Teresa Boulevard, San Jose or the district’s website, www.ogsd.net .  Application forms will not be mailed. Eligible applicants will be interviewed by the Board in a public session on the week of September 30-October 4, 2024.

ELIGIBILITY
(a)   Any person who is 18 years of age or older, a citizen of the state, a resident of the school district, a registered voter, and who is not disqualified by the Constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office, is eligible to be elected or appointed a member of a governing board of a school district without further qualifications.

(b)   An employee of a school district may not be sworn into office as an elected or appointed member of that school district's governing board unless and until he or she resigns as an employee. If the employee does not resign, the employment will automatically terminate upon being sworn into office.

(c)   Desirable Qualification:  An understanding of a public school district and the role of a member of the Board of Trustees is desirable.

September 6, 2024 - Deadline to submit Application
September 12, 2024 (Board Meeting) - Board Appoints Subcommittee in Public Session as an Action Item. Subcommittee works with Superintendent to determine process. (Information sheet, Interview Questions, application)
September 16-18, 2024 - Eligible Candidates are sent Candidate Information Sheet for completion
September 26, 2024 - Deadline to submit Candidate Information Sheet (4:30pm)
September 27, 2024 - Candidate Information sheets sent to the Board in the Friday Letter for review
October 3, 2024 (Special Board Meeting) - Special Board Meeting for Interviews, Public Comment, Board deliberation and Appointment of Board Member at the Special Board meeting.
October 13, 2024 - Within 10 days of appointment, provide notice to the public of vacancy and why and notice that Board took action and made an appointment (Press Release)
October 17, 2024 (Board Meeting) - Celebratory Swearing In of New Board Member at the Board Meeting
