The Academy Community Day School
The Academy is located next to the Davis Intermediate School campus and provides instruction to 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders using all Oak Grove School District adopted curriculum. The Academy offers an extended school day that provides more instructional minutes devoted to mathematics and language arts. Homework center is also incorporated into our day in order to support students and families.
On a daily basis our students study Life Skills in order to build community and develop healthy social and emotional skills. Students participate in service learning by mentoring 2nd and 3rd graders at an elementary school once a week. The City of San Jose also supports our program through presentations and field trips aimed at building community and having students make positive choices.
The Academy not only holds their students to high standards academically, but also high standards behaviorally. Students set weekly behavior goals that they self-assess. The system used to correct student behavior is audible, visual and kinesthetic. Students are able to easily assess their own behavior at any point during the day using our chart system. The chart corresponds to points, off of which positive and negative consequences are based.
Referrals to The Academy must come from the school principal.
