Student Privacy and Data

Under FERPA law, a district can provide student data without parent permission for educational purposes as a School Official Exception.  This would include Google Apps for Education in which we create student user accounts.

Oak Grove School District relies on contract negotiations with vendors to ensure the protection of student data.  The District requires vendors to sign a MOU to prohibit student data mining or targeting marketing while requiring industry standards for encryption and security. As new district-wide contracts are signed and old contracts are renewed, the MOU process is put into place. The goal is to ensure that all vendors (including teacher-initiated classroom-based tools) are either subject to a negotiated contract or covered by new state or federal legislation regulating vendor practices.  We ensure that all the technology vendors are COPPA compliant.
